Bimonte-Nelson Lab - Collaborators

T-Gen

We are pleased to be collaborating with Dr. Matthew Huentelman, Dr. Travis Dunckley and Dr. Eric Reiman from the prestigious T-Gen organization. This work focuses on novel drug therapies to enhance cognition.

Barrow Neurological Institute

We are fortunate to have collaborations with several researchers at this world renown institute, including Dr. Ron Lukas, Dr. Paul Whiteaker and Dr. Alain Simard (cholinergic system, memory and hormones), Dr. Leslie Baxter (MRI scans for women on hormone therapy), Dr. Vinodh Narayanan (Rett Syndrome) and Dr. Jon Valla (AD mouse models).

Northern Arizona University

We have an exciting collaboration to evaluate the cognitive profile of new animal models of ovarian hormone loss with Dr. Loretta Mayer from NAU. So far, we have compared surgical and transitional models of menopause for cognition, as well as hormone therapy effects depending on whether menopause is surgical or transitional. These papers have been recently published (please see Publications, to the left).

University of North Texas Health Sciences Center

We are thrilled to continue our productive collaboration with Dr. Laszlo Prokai and Dr. Kati Prokai-Tatrai from the UNT Health Sciences Center. We have many publications together as we share the common goals of understanding the cognitive and neural outcome of commonly prescribed hormone therapies and discovering novel hormone therapy options to promote brain health during aging.

Medical University of South Carolina

(Dr. Bimonte-Nelson's alma mater)

Our collaborative research effort with Dr. Narayan Bhat has recently revealed relationships between a high fat diet and cognitive function in mouse models with altered cholesterol receptors, which we are further pursuing together in ongoing experiments. We are also thrilled to be continuing collaborations with Dr. Lotta Granholm, Heather's postdoc mentor.

Emory University

Over the last several years, our exciting collaboration with neurologist Dr. William Tyor has evaluated a novel murine model of HIV encephalitis, showing robust and reliable cognitive changes that we have correlated with neurobiological markers related to the disease process. Several collaborative papers have been published (see Publications to the left).
