Corbin - Behavioral Alcohol Research for Clinical Advancement
Research Assistants (RAs) are needed to assist with participant recruitment and data collection in an alcohol administration protocol. RAs will learn procedures for safely administering alcohol to human subjects and will also learn to administer survey and interview based measures.
The current project is an ongoing study on the effects of alcohol on gambling behavior, and basic cognitive processes that underlie decision making. In the context of the study, student RAs will assist with the screening and scheduling of participants and will assist in the collection of the data. Data collection involves the administration of survey and computer based behavioral tasks as well as interviews. RAs will be trained to administer alcohol safely within the context of the protocol and will assist the research supervisors in monitoring the behavior of participants following alcohol consumption. RAs are expected to devote one evening each week (Monday-Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m.) to data collection. All research staff, including undergraduate RAs will meet on a weekly basis to review the progress of the study, and to discuss research articles relevant to the project and the broader goals of the research lab. Opportunities to assist with management and analysis of the data are available to students interested in gaining this type of experience.
RAs will be accepted in the fall with a preference for RAs who are willing to dedicate a full academic year to the project. Spring RAs will be accepted as needed.
Opportunities for lower credit total are possible, we are primarily seeking students who can devote three credit hours per semester to the project. Each data collection session takes 5-8 hours to complete (starting at 5 p.m. on weekdays) and students are expected to commit to one evening of data collection each week.
