Have you ever experienced serious pain? If so, you may have wondered: Are there good alternatives for treating pain besides the administration of medicine? Which aspects of emotion and cognition matter in pain control? If you are interested in seeking answers to these questions (whether or not you have personal experiences with serious pain), please consider joining our scientific effort to help patients manage their pain. Dr. Davis is conducting a study to investigate the efficacy of "Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Pain and Emotion" in alleviating chronic pain in fibromyalgia patients. She is recruiting conscientious and motivated individuals to work as research assistants in the lab. In this role, you will have the opportunity to get an insider's look at, and hands-on experience with, the process of assessing facial electromyography (EMG) and several physiological indices via state-of-the-art equipment and software. Also, you will obtain a theoretical understanding of various interventions in the study of pain. In short, you will gain important research skills highly valued in graduate and medical programs, while making a meaningful contribution to the accumulation of knowledge on pain alleviation.
