Thank you for your interest in volunteering/interning with Arizonans for Children. Our two Visitation Centers provide a safe homelike environment for parents to visit with their children. This may occur as a result of foster care placement or due to a family court case related to custody/parenting time. Families visiting in our Visitation Centers have access to a playground, dining areas, toys, air hockey, books, snacks, activities and more! We are seeking volunteers for the Visitation Supervisor and Visitation Center Host roles.

Many volunteers are interested in both roles and if that’s you, email Andrea Chavez to help schedule your interview. Shifts are scheduled based on client need with hours for report writing captured at home; flexible for students and those working. In Mesa we are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and in Phoenix, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12–4 p.m.

How to apply:

  1. Fill out the application and confidentiality form. You may return the forms by email or prepare to bring them with you to an interview.
  2. Email dates/times you are available to schedule an hour interview. We recruit all year long and it’s best to schedule an interview when you are ready to begin serving vs. months in advance. We complete interviews Monday through Friday at 1112 W. Camelback Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85013.
  3. Prepare to bring an ID or Driver’s License.
  4. If your internship supervisor requires specific credentials, please let us know.

Internship Description

Visitation Supervisor: We train folks to supervise court ordered visits between parents and children not typically involved with the foster care system. Plan to take observation notes in order to write a report that will be forwarded to a Family Court Judge for long term decision making as it relates to custody/parenting time. This is an important role helping families feel welcome as they work through difficult situations. Folks in this role have excellent listening, observation, and writing skills with a desire to help families heal. Andrea Chavez will be your contact for this role!

Visitation Center Host: We want to be the best party in town and we are looking for the best Host to bring positive energy and smiles to the Visitation Centers! Our Hosts welcome our guests, manage onsite resources, ensure the centers are sanitized and safe, and check families in and out. Folks in this role enjoy interacting with children/parents/community partners, work well in teams, have a positive attitude and show initiative. Contact the Visitation Center Coordinator to move forward with an application and interview.
