Adjunct faculty appointments are made in order to facilitate the adjunct faculty member’s professional association with the university for the benefit of the individual and the university in such roles as supervising clinical practice students, assisting with research efforts and occasionally teaching. Adjunct faculty appointments are unpaid and usually part-time positions for limited (not more than one year) renewable terms. Units can request that an individual be granted adjunct status through which they would receive access to various ASU services including an ASU email account and library privileges

Steps for requesting Adjunct status for non-ASU employee
- Email Adjunct request to Theresa Lopez, Department HR Specialist, Sr. in the Business Office
- Theresa will reply with the information needed to become Adjunct Faculty at ASU which includes:
- Letter of support written outlining the mutual benefit between the individual, university and faculty sponsor
- Copy of affiliate’s most current CV
- Contact Information Sheet
- Letter of support written outlining the mutual benefit between the individual, university and faculty sponsor
- Submit the information to Theresa Lopez
- If Adjunct candidate is not affiliated with ASU, Courtesy Affiliate ID Request Form is to be filled out by candidate and returned by email
- Theresa will then obtain Director and Dean approval (College/School Review)
- Provost approval comes directly from the Academic Personnel System.
- Once Provost approval is received, Theresa will forward the approval e-mail to adjunct candidate and “Congratulations” e-mail to candidate, along with Adjunct Faculty appointment letter
Adjunct Faculty Renewal Process
- Renewals begin in April and extend until June 30th
- Theresa Lopez will send email to Faculty with information needed to renew Adjunct Faculty appointment at ASU which includes:
- Letter of support written by the sponsoring faculty member outlining the mutual benefit between the individual, university and sponsor
- Copy of adjunct’s most current CV
- Updated contact Information Sheet
- Letter of support written by the sponsoring faculty member outlining the mutual benefit between the individual, university and sponsor
- Submit the information to Theresa Lopez, Department HR Specialist, Sr.
- Theresa Lopez will access the Academic Personnel System and enter the necessary information and submit for approval
- Once approval is received, she will forward the “approval” e-mail to adjunct candidate, and “Congratulations” e-mail to candidate, along with Adjunct Faculty appointment letter.
